Stop the Madness – Operation Peanut's Promise Booboo is on hold…
Booboo is an approx. 1 y.o. black Lab.
1/17/15 I took Booboo in for his Vet check this morning, and all is well with him. He was heartworm and tick disease negative. He weighed in at 45 pounds, of which I’m sure I have put a couple on him just in this short week. We will get his titer back next week and treated him for the whipworms last Monday.
I was concerned about crossing the city streets with him so the Animal Hospital let me come in the back/basement and he walked up the stairs like a champ. He was scared, but he has learned to trust me so, he did very well in the new situation. He held very still for his blood draw and microchipping.
I have seen a timid boy who wouldn’t come out of the crate on Monday to a tail-wagging, prancing, toy-holding boy on Friday morning when he came out of the crate. Last night he starting retrieving a ball, and he really had fun doing that. I am still amazed that having been an outside dog, he has never had an accident in the house. However, he would make a good thief. ;-) He has tried to take shoes, a remote control and shops on the table tops. He did get hold of a roll of paper towels and frayed the ends a bit. He is very easy to correct and stops any of those behaviors immediately.
The first day when he was so scared I taught him how to touch, which he picked up very quickly. I have used this for my own dogs in preparing for the show ring and being able to keep their attention on me in a stressful situation. By putting a treat between your fingers and holding your hand flat, palm down I ask them to touch. When they go for the treat and touch my hand I tell them good touch. It kind of happens as an accident at first, but they soon catch on that if they touch your hand they will get a treat. This helped Booboo to get close to me and for him to touch me, not me touching him. I did this a little bit each day, feeding just his kibble so he didn’t get too many other treats. As they progress you can move your hand up and to each side so that they actually have to stretch or move to touch you. I have also used the touch when heeling, with my left hand flat, palm down, close to my side, if I ask them to touch it keeps them close to me and by my side. Thank god Labradors love food, they are so easy to train.
Booboo gets along fine with my 12 yr old Chocolate Lab, 5 yr old Boston Terrier and the sneaky cat. He actually doesn’t care about the cat at all, but the cat doesn’t know that. I can’t wait to get home at the end of the day to see the new baby. Booboo has been an awesome first foster.

1/13/15 Boo Boo is a 1 year old black male who is pretty timid. I’m really pleased with the progress he is making and not one accident in the house. I have not had him fully vetted yet, but he does show positive for whipworms, for which he was treated today, and he will need to be neutered. More later.

Booboo isn't up for adoption yet as he is still going through his evaluation period, socialization, and vetting needs but stay tuned for updates.
