LeLu is part of the Stop the Madness group - Operation Sunday Labs ~ 11/17/14 Lelu made it home and is settling in . . .lots of new stuff. She went to the Vet today, and at 29 pounds the Vet says she looks healthy. She tested positive for whipworm and is being treated, negative heartworm and a weak positive for Lyme. Vet says her heat cycle is ending, and she will get spayed in the first week of December. Her confidence continues to grow, and she is getting along with Bella and Cash and starting to play with their toys... Cash was using her for a pillow, so she decided to return the favor... Lelu has taken a liking to John (not sure why :) He gives her yummy food, she lies on his chest every evening for their "cat nap," and she follows him everywhere he goes. She's walking pretty well on a leash.
Last night he played fetch with her, and she brought the ball back to him, dropped it, and wagged her tail as high as it would go as she retrieved and trotted back to him. This went on for a good 20 minutes. This morning he put a gate in the bedroom doorway to keep her in with me while I got ready for work, and before he was out the door she jumped it. Our 85 lb. puppy just stood there looking at the gate, and I could see he was thinking, "how'd she do that?" She has a funny personality and is a real sweetie. It's so rewarding to see her learning and becoming comfortable in a loving home. On Tuesday 12/2 she was spayed. The vet staff said she did great, up to 33 pounds. We brought her home that night and besides the stitches you would not know that she had surgery. On Thursday night 12/4 we decided to go for a short walk. Since we got her, she has gone on daily walks in the neighborhood. In front of our house her leash dropped and for some reason she took off dragging her leash. We searched for her Thursday night and into the early Friday morning hours, leaving the garage door cracked open with a dog bed outside and a dog bed inside the garage with food. The search continued Friday morning, afternoon, and night with the help of friends and LEARN volunteers with no sightings anywhere. Saturday morning I checked the garage at 6am, no sign, food still in the dish. I sat down to send an email update for all of those looking for her. All of a sudden, Bella and Cash went towards the door to the garage and their tails were waggin and hitting the wall. I walked over and there Lelu was, still dragging the leash, and the food in the dish was gone!! Once inside she was so happy. Except for some burrs and a few scratches, she looked good and her stitches looked good, her shaved belly a little raw. Ironically, she seems more relaxed at home now than when she left. She must have missed us as much as we missed her. Being skittish, having a fenced yard may be a good idea. She seems more content when the home is quiet.
12/18/14 We took a vacation out of state so Lelu went to stay with a friend that I had been taking her to visit. He lives alone with his two large breed dogs, several cats and a bird. She did great with all the animals, no issues. It took Lelu a couple days to bond with my friend, but after that she was at home with him and did great. He noticed a few things that we have too: loud, unfamiliar noises or visitors she would retreat to the safety of her kennel. She does not indicate when she needs to go outside to the bathroom, so taking her out occasionally is necessary, and she still has accidents inside. 12/25/14 We came back from vacation. Still very attached to her foster dad ( and friend that watched her during vacation). Still skittish around others, more so around our 18 year old son, not aggressive at all, just fearful. She seems to like taking walks less after she ran away .. now, she's very content on just being at home; walks now are short and close to home. She is still very cute and funny!!! At this time, Lelu could certainly be adopted, but finding the right person/situation will be the challenge. 02/01/15 Lelu checking in .... I'm starting to like going on walks again. I only get nervous when cars drive by and strangers approach. My foster parents walk me on a harness to prevent me from backing out of my collar. I am comfortable at home. I have my crate to go in when I'm feeling stressed, like when people visit. I'm still most comfortable around my foster dad and love playing fetch. I'm starting to be a little more comfortable around my foster mom and sister. I'm still not to sure about my foster brother but my foster mom thinks it has something to do with resembling the breeder I came from. But I do love playing with my foster dog brother and foster dog sister. If we drive anywhere, I am most comfortable if I can find a place to hide until we get where we are going. I've added a recent picture of me and my foster sister Bella. If you think you might be interested in meeting/adopting LeLu please fill out an adoption application and have a home visit first. www.labadoption.org/info/adoption – If you have already done these things, please be sure to email L.E.A.R.N. that you would like to be put on her potential family list.
