PJ was adopted but returned to LEARN due to her reaction to a crying infant. She was fine with the baby in the room but became agitated and very worked up when it started to cry. We will be working with her on that issue to get her past that, but she probably would be best in a home with older children, which she really likes. PJ is a very sweet, female black Lab. Her elderly owner surrendered her to Chicago Animal Care and Control because she couldn't care for her anymore and was unable to walk her. PJ must have been very "loved" (meaning too much people food) because she is a bit overweight and needs to lose 10-12 more pounds to be a healthier weight. Her owner said she is 3 years old, but we think she's more like 5. She is perfectly housebroken and does not need to be crated, although she is crate-trained and doesn't object to it at all. She goes to the dog park in Chicago where a train goes by every once in a while and isn't afraid of it at all. We had a thunderstorm a week or so ago, and she was fine with that. She gets along great with the dogs at the park, although she doesn't really seem interested in them either. She likes to play fetch and will bring a toy back to you, but she gets bored ... or tired ... after six or seven times and just wants to hang with her people. Not sure if she likes to swim, but she REALLY likes to play with the hose. She is still "searching" for her owner, which is something a lot of dogs that have been abandoned do, but she is getting better and has really bonded with us, especially my husband. She apparently was never disciplined so we are working on some of her manners. For example, when we opened a door, she bulldozed through it and paid no attention to dog or human. Now she knows she has to wait for everyone to go out first, and then she can come out. She still doesn't understand why she has to wait, but she's being a good sport about it. She also pulls quite a bit on the leash, but she has perfect manners when she greets other dogs and people. She sleeps very quietly on her dog bed in our bedroom and doesn't make any noise until the alarm goes off in the morning. PJ will need some time to adjust to a new home, since she is still looking for her mom, but once she does, she will be a wonderful companion.
