12/29/2025 Hey everyone! Maple checking in!
Guess what? All my “Cookies” have gone to their forever homes, and now it’s time for me to find my own family!
I've been making some amazing progress! My potty training skills have leveled up, and I’m officially a potty pro! I don’t have a specific signal yet—just a bit of pacing here and there. But foster mom works her magic and lets me outside every few hours, and voilà - no accidents! I cozy up on my dog bed right next to foster mom at night, and I sleep like a champ!
Now let’s talk about my crate training. Foster mom has been so clever! She pulled out all the stops with a yummy bone, calming collar, some mysterious pheromones, and the sweetest calming tunes! These days, when she puts me in my crate, I might let out a little bark, but then I chill out. Once in a while I hear her talking to me through some camera thingy, telling me to “be quiet,” and guess what? I listen! Honestly, though, I could totally skip the crate, but foster mom says it’s for my safety. Sometimes I even choose to lay in there all by myself while she’s home now!
I had a vet visit on the 23rd when my “Cookies” went, and good news—I’m looking great! Just need to pack on a few more pounds. I also started a 30-day treatment for Lyme and Anaplasmosis, so my future family will need to carry that torch until my meds are complete.
Oh, and Christmas was a blast! We had a full house of visitors, and I was an absolute hit! Everyone said I was super sweet and a good girl. I got pets from the tiniest toddlers to some “older” humans. I felt like a star!
Now, for the funniest story ever - at least I thought it was hilarious until bath time came around! So, here’s the scoop: foster mom decided to do a little “touch-up” painting on the hallway steps and accidentally left a full gallon of paint sitting out on the kitchen floor. Well, guess who thought it would be a great idea to take a stroll through that? Yep, I tracked bright lovely paint all over the living room and kitchen! Foster mom freaked out, leashed me up like a speedy superhero, and dashed out to foster dad's workshop to grab him to save the day before that paint dried. I mean, how was I supposed to know walking through wet paint would be a bad idea? Not my fault she left it there, right? In the end, I got a surprise bath, and I was a super pretty and soft pup just in time for Christmas. So, I guess it all worked out!
I’m getting spayed on January 9th - just a few days of pampering, and then I’ll be ready for my forever home! Could you be the lucky one to take me home? If you're already approved and think we could be a match made in heaven, drop a line to labmatch@labadoption.org. If you haven’t been approved yet, no worries! You can start the process here.
Let’s make some magic happen! Can’t wait to meet my forever family! 12/7/2024 Hi everyone! It's Maple here! My foster mom says it's time for an update on me because, you know, it's not all about my adorable puppies. They are 5 weeks old today, so I'm getting pretty close to being done with them. Oh! Don't get me wrong, I'll always love them, but I could do without their sharp little teeth, you know? Foster mom says it's a good thing I'm almost done with the puppies because I'm SUPER skinny, and I need to put on about 10 pounds. She's making me wear what she calls a "stylish" coat to keep warm outside until I gain some weight. I'm doing pretty well with some commands. My foster mom has taught me to sit, lie down, and touch. I come when she calls me, but she still doesn't trust me off-leash outside. I'm okay with that because I'd rather do my business and come back inside to the warm house anyway. Indoor living definitely has its perks! I was really good about not pottying in the house while I was focused on my pups, but I've had a few accidents since then. Foster mom always says, "Thank God for vinyl plank floors." I’m not sure what the significance of that is, but at least she doesn't get too upset. I'm learning, you know? Crate training is a work in progress. I DID NOT like being put in there at the end of the week, but she's going to try a few things next week to help me get used to it. I'll report back later on how I feel about it. I've mastered most of my fears pretty quickly; doors and stairs don't scare me anymore. Sometimes it takes me a few minutes to warm up to new people, but I guess the house will be pretty full (with both humans and dogs) on Christmas Day, so we’ll see how things go and I'll keep you updated. I'll be getting spayed in January, so I won't have to go through this again, and then I'll be ready for my forever home. Could that maybe be you?
11/13/2024 Maple is mamma to the "Cookie" litter. She is 2-1/2 years old and also form the Breeder release group. She has/had many of the same behaviors as the others, but due to the rapid delivery of her puppies, she got a "crash course" in trusting us. She quickly mastered stairs and doorways out of necessity. She has since gotten comfortable with being leashed and walking on a leash, though she will still spin around you to find her spot. She has learned the "touch" command, and sits nice for treats. She rarely "pancakes" anymore, but you can still tell she is timid when we approach. Other than the first day or two after delivery, she has had no more accidents in the house, and she is being an amazing mamma. She will not be ready for adoption until a month or so after the puppies are weaned and she is spayed. In the mean time we will continue to work on building her confidence. She is going to be an amazing family member, when the time comes. Other Pictures of Mabel (click to see larger version):
