5/13/19 Pru is ready for adoption. Pru is naturally a happy girl and likes to be with the people she trusts. She is a velcro girl that while she has no real bad habits, she does need basic training. Given her background of being a breeder dog that was kept in an outside kennel, she has human trust issues and her basic training needs to be taken slow and with the right temperament from the humans.

She now freely takes food from my hand and is gentle about it. She now jumps out of the vehicle on her own, but still needs help getting in. (She gets the idea of jumping in, as she has watched mine do it, but I think due to lack of exercise in her previous life she isn't that agile.) On walks we were having a problem with her mouthing your hand whether on or off leash - that has tapered back quite a bit. While on walks she is glued to your side whether on or off leash. Usually the first 1/8 of a mile you've got to remind her not to step in front of your leg - I get the point across by bumping my knee into her. She gets all bouncy and happy when you go to take her for walks or when she first gets let out of the crate.

She is crated at night and when no one is home. This is something that I believe she will eventually be allowed to have free roam as she hasn't shown any destructive tendencies. She has a strict routine first thing in the mornings, and when it is followed there are no accidents.

Pru has no interest in dog beds or furniture. It took over two weeks before she would lay on the blankets in her crate. She does occasionally gnosh on hard chew toys like antlers and nylabones and a few times she's taken rag bones and pulled them apart. It generally doesn't last real long, but considering she did nothing when she arrived, its an improvement.

Pru is an alert barker. It has tapered back quite a bit. Some strangers that visit she will bark at every time they move suddenly and others she is quiet - this is mostly in relation to the sex of the stranger - she has a harder time with men. As she continues to get desensitized to everything new, this will continue to decrease as it has here.

Pru is much more comfortable having other dogs around. There is no known history with cats. Pru has been to the dog park many times and has interacted with all dogs, big and small, well.

All in all, Pru has a very sweet temperament and she needs humans that will be patient in meeting her, earning her trust, and training.

5/2/19 Pru dug out the toys herself and proceeded to pull them apart. Between 2 toys it lasted about 20 minutes and I had a mess on my floor. But that's ok, it means she's understanding what a house dog does and she's getting comfortable.

She gets bouncy happy in the mornings and when I'm coming up the stairs where she is waiting for me. I can pet her any time now. Her trust level isn't the same with the hubby as she doesn't spend as much time with him, but she trusts him to protect her when strangers are in the house and she'll happily go walking with him and greet him when he comes home.

The alert barking has decreased quite a bit until we had guests in the house for days and that set her off again. As soon as they left, the barking decreased again.

We've gotten her regulated for potty breaks and after 2-1/2 weeks she finally went potty when it was dark outside.

She played chase with one of my girls spontaneously when I sent one to round up the other one day. Pru's running stride is getting better, when she first arrived it was more like galumping.

Pru's natural personality is a happy one.

4/20/19 Pru is coming along nicely; she takes baby steps each day.

We've learned to move our hands slowly when approaching her for pets. Body rubs are preferred, but head scratches are ok.

No accidents in a week, but she won't potty if it's dark out. Haven't a clue why this is. Maybe she was locked into a crate all the time during the dark, so she's used to holding it. I don't know.

She gets excited for walks. The only leash training we are working on is keeping her from stepping in front of your leg. She doesn't wander, she doesn't pull, but she's glued to you like white on rice. She was circling around me initially, but for the most part that has been curbed except when you're trying to get out the door with 3 dogs.

She's curious and interested in humans but is cautious of you if you go to touch her. However she'll give you affectionate licks anywhere skin is showing with no problem.

We had friends over today. She was curious, but cautious, and didn't run away. She did allow pets I think because I was right there, and they were sitting on the floor for her so they weren't so scary.

She eats fine and will now continue to eat even if I walk away as long as it isn't too far. She won't take food from my hand yet, and she hasn't shown any interest in treats. I'm hoping as she gets more comfortable this will change so I can train her. She has no manners or recall at all.

She takes the stairs like a champ now, and doorways aren't as scary. It seems her safe spot has become my office since we spend so much time in there. The hardwood floors can still trip her up, but she still chugs forward. Generally she wants to be where the humans are, but if we start to be too much by moving too quickly, she'll run to my office.

She is an alertest. So new noises, people outside she can see through a window and a magically appearing person into a room causes her to bark. I anticipate this will alleviate with time.

She gets spayed and a dental on Tuesday. The rest of her Vetting has been done, and other than gooky ears her physical health was good, although she needs to lose 10lbs.

4/13/19 Prunelle, Pru for short, is a 6 year old purebred Lab who was used for breeding. She and 10 other dogs were surrendered when the breeder retired. Pru and Lynn came to LEARN. All 11 dogs were overweight; some have an easier time with the humans than others.

Pru is hand shy. She gives affectionate, submissive licks but shies away from receiving affection. Her personality in body language, so far, indicates a curiosity and interest in humans. It took 10 minutes to get her out of the car, and she doesn't know how to jump out or in a vehicle.

She really perked up when we brought out her fur foster siblings and eagerly greeted them and was immediately more comfortable.

She doesn't know how to do stairs, and she is wary of doorways. When walking with her she will mouth your hand briefly or give you hand a lick. She keeps scratching at her collar, which tells me she's never worn one.

Overall, when it comes to humans she is submissive.
