~~~~~~~ON HOLD~~~~~~~~~~ 10/22/18 Hello again, Andrew here. I am really starting to enjoy humans. Turns they aren't so scary except for the little ones - they move awfully fast and are quite loud. Same thing for puppies. Found out I don't really like those either! I am enjoying the couch and outside time but especially like coming back in when it's cold out. I never got to do that before. Foster mom: Andrew is really doing well. We call him Andrew a lot of the time now. It suits his personality more than Andy. He is an old soul I feel. He is now neutered, and the marking in the house has slowed to almost stopped. He will come and solicit petting and affection from me, will accept petting from my husband but not solicit. Andrew will also take almost any treat from me, but he still sniffs them first. He has relaxed quite a bit and finally is settling in. We are working on "strangers" and unfamiliar environments along starting some obedience skills. Andrew doesn't know "sit" or "lie down" yet. 9/26/18 Hello again; Andy here. Things are going well. I have gained 5 pounds and am starting to enjoy getting pets from my foster mom. I love to greet her when she comes home from work by rubbing against her legs and having her scratch me. Still unsure about other people touching me. I do enjoy car rides and running at Grandma Sue's hobby farm. So many good smells. From the foster parents: Andy is coming along nicely. He is enjoying learning how to be a regular dog. Right now we are working on housebreaking....but I believe most of what he is doing is marking as he is still an intact male. Neuter is scheduled. He is comfortable enough to have started some counter surfing in his explorations of the house. His separation anxiety when at home is pretty much gone. However when I leave him at my mom's with at least 4 other dogs he can be destructive, naughty and not housebroken. So we are working on that also. He still is not ready to start any type of obedience training. He is better with touch and will come and ask for it. Andy likes to rub against my legs when I get up in the morning and when I come home from work. Almost like a cat does! 9/4/18 Hi! My name is Andy, and I came into LEARN at the end of August from a neglectful situation. As a result, I am a bit scared and cautious, but yet, I am curious and like to explore my new surroundings. My foster parents are impressed by how well I am handling all my new experiences. Human touch is still really scary, and I try to avoid it but have been learning it isn't all that bad, especially when getting scratches under that collar thing. That is also a new experience for me. I am a smidge underweight. Now, I am learning to be dog. My foster mom says sometimes I'm like a giant puppy - everything goes in my mouth. My foster mom tells me that I am not allowed to go on the table or counters, but I have managed to do that a time or two. She says that when I trust her a little more I will start to learn some basic obedience skills. From the foster parents: Andy has the potential to become a great dog, but it will take lots of time and patience. And training. We are currently working on housebreaking and allowing us to touch him. So far he is doing well with a routine. We have to leave a leash on when he is out in our fenced yard so we can catch him again. He will back away if you get too close by leaning down toward him or walking too close. Each day gets better and better. He needs to gain a good 10 pounds, but right now he is a little anxious about eating. He would do best in a quieter household with no kids or older kids (16+). The loudness and sudden movement of young children would not be a good fit. Since he is underweight we have no idea of his true energy level and what type of exercise will be best for him. (Andy has also showed us some signs of having some separation anxiety from his foster mom, and we're working on that.) 12/10/18 Hello again. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. This upcoming year will be my best one yet! My foster mom says I am finally beginning to act like a real dog. I will say things are definitely less scary but still intimidating. I am starting a shy dog class next week and that is suppose to help me. Not sure what that means but I know it involves a car ride and treats, two of my favorite things.
