***ON HOLD*** - MEDICAL

August 3rd, Update:

Went in for our check-up and rehab yesterday. Thumbs up on both! She goes back in two more weeks for x-rays to ensure bone growth w/the plate and screws is going well.

We are at 5 weeks post-op as of this coming Monday. Doctors think that mid September she should be ready to go to her furever home, as long as recovery continues at the same pace.

July 14 Update

The surgeries were a success!  Maggie was a very good patient and after two weeks was able to come home.  I think she is happy to be back in familiar territory but not happy about her doggy jail.  (See the last picture posted)

She is very good about letting us do her PT twice daily and is thrilled to take her 5-10 minute walks two to three times a day.  She is pretty unhappy about not being able to play with her foster brother, but we try to make up for it with human cuddle time.

We go back in two weeks for x-rays to check her progress and a little more PT/rehab!  She is definitely on the road to recovery!

June 22 Update

Maggie met the greatest Vet this past week.  We have her CCL surgery scheduled for July.  Unfortunately, during the exam they found she has OCD, osteochondritis dissecans.  [I'm told at home it is very different than human OCD :) ]  OCD is when a bone in the ankle has broken, and the fragments are floating around causing discomfort and swelling.  Soooo, I'll be having two surgeries on the same day.  (We missed the buy-one-get-one sale. :-0   ) So we could really use some sponsors to help defray the costs associated with getting Maggie cleaned up and comfortable.

That aside, Maggie is fabulous!  She is the sweetest, most lovable dog.  She is playful and cuddly wrapped up on one.  So much so she sometimes can't decide!  Maggie and her foster brother play, and then she crawls onto to the couch to lie across your lap.  When you shower, she waits outside the tub.  When you go to the bathroom, she sits really, really close.  She loves attention!

Maggie enjoys going for walks but could use a little leash work.  She is very smart and a quick learner.  Fingers are over rated, but we're working on taking treats a little nicer.  When she wants your attention but isn't getting it, she'll throw her head under your hand or awkwardly, but gently, put her snout between your legs (think much higher than knee level) and just hang out.  Maybe her nose is cold?...

Maggie hasn't ever had people food, so she doesn't beg.  She isn't a counter surfer.  She doesn't fence fight and bark at the neighbor dogs, who bark at her.  She doesn't seem bothered by fire works . . . the neighbors are currently testing their pre-4th of July supplies.  Maggie was kenneled for the first couple weeks and then was given a little more freedom.  The kennel went to the basement weeks ago.  There are no signs of mischief, and the house is still intact.  :-)

Stay tuned for more Maggie updates and photos!!!

5/12/18  Greetings!  I'm Maggie. . . a spunky, one year old, pure bred, chocolate Lab.  I have a super sweet personality and love people and dogs alike.  Right now I'm living with my foster mom and foster brother.  My foster brother and I spend a lot of time wrestling.  It's awesome.  My foster mom is super pumped about it.

I have a big back yard that is fenced.  I love to play and run around in it.  I have some basic obedience.  I ride very nicely in a car, am housebroken, crate easily, and can be a bit of a lap dog.

I have a torn cranial cruciate ligament.  So there is a surgery in my future.  I will be on hold until that is done, and I've had some time to do a little rehab!
