Update as of 10/15/13

Howdy all.  I had my surgery on 10/9/13 at the UW-Madison. :-)  I'm back at my foster home, and my foster mom can't believe how well I'm doing.  She was told to keep me quiet for the next two weeks, but once in a while I want to run around.  I feel great and am grateful that LEARN has given me the opportunity to live a longer and normal life.  I have to go back to the UW-Madison in December for a recheck but that shouldn't keep me from finding my permanent home.  I would prefer to go to a home with another dog or two, because I like the companionship  of a brother or sister.

Hello fellow Lab lovers.....Biaggio here.  (My foster mom calls me GeeO for short) .   I'm a 4 year old yellow boy who was owner-surrendered because my human dad died in an auto accident, and my human mom had too much on her plate with two kids and a senior lab.  My foster mom says I'm a little guy, but she's comparing me to my foster brother and sister.  I weigh in at 75 pounds.

Now that the introduction over with, I have to tell you about my medical condition.  You see, I have a heart problem.   I had a murmur when I came into LEARN, and my foster mom wanted to get a second opinion about my murmur.   The good doctor suggested I get an echocardiogram.  Well, the doctor who did my echocardiogram said I was a text book case.  He consulted with other Vets throughout the United States, and they came to the conclusion that my heart can be fixed through surgery.   I have what is called PDA (patent ductus arteriosus and subaortic stenosis).    There are only 3 cases reported in the United States of dogs with both these problems.  I am going for a second opinion so I can get the best possible diagnosis.  I love life but if my heart doesn't get fixed, my life will be shortened.   I want to run and play and fetch the tennis ball, but that has to be put on hold right now until after my surgery.  I can live a normal life after that.

I get along great with adults, children and other dogs.  I'm housebroken and can be trusted without being crated. (I am crate-trained.)  The counters do tempt me if there is food on them.  I love the kong and keep throwing it at my foster mom, and she keeps telling me to take it easy because it hurts when I hit her in the head with it. :-0  I love to give hugs.  When my foster mom is sitting in her favorite chair, I'll put my front paws on her shoulders and give her hugs.  I'm just one loveable, likable guy who wants to live life to the fullest.
