UPDATE My surgery on the 8th went very well. Dr. Denise M. Lindley at the Animal Eye Consultants in Elgin, IL did my surgery. You can see my right eye has a red spot on it. That's where they did a conjunctival flap to repair an old injury. There are actually sutures in there. The red is good because that means the blood is flowing to the flap which will make it heal properly. I went for a post surgery re-check, and Dr. Lindley said it looks like it had been two weeks since the surgery, not just one. It is healing very well! I still need to have some medicine in my eyes, but I am a very good boy about that. I need to go back for another re-check in four weeks. The best part about the re-check was I got to get rid of the cone. That was no fun at all. My foster Mom is really happy to since I am no longer running into EVERYTHING. My name is Tony. I was a stray at a local shelter and was one of the lucky ones as I got to go to LEARN. The shelter said I wasn't adoptable from there because I have a sore on my eye. It was clear that my eye is sore as I try to keep it shut most of the time because it hurts to blink. My foster Mom took me to see an animal eye specialist, and I am having surgery on Monday. The doctor said I have Chronic Descemetcele. On Monday they are going to correct the problem, and once it heals, all will be good. I will need to have medicine for my eyes for the rest of my life because I have dry eyes - just like people get. Some other things you might want to know about me - I am about 7-9 years young, crate- and house-trained, good with dogs and cats, ride great in the car, and love to have my belly rubbed. Once you start to pet me, I will roll over and hope that you rub my belly. I was at an event with LEARN the other day and got about 50 people to rub my belly. It was great!! Another thing I love is tennis balls. I will play with one all by myself. I know how to roll it across the floor and then go fetch it. I can get two in my mouth at one time!. I'll post an update after my surgery. Lots of labbie kisses, Tony If you are interested in meeting/adopting Tony please fill out an application and have a home visit.
