12/29/20 Jaxx is getting spayed today, so she'll be ready to meet a new family in a few days.

Jaxx has some puppy goofiness in her when she gallumps during play and when she is first let out of the crate in the mornings. She's pretty mild mannered and really only needs a good daily walk, she doesn't need to be run to be content and happy. She isn't a rough dog player either, but enjoys gentle wrestling and short romps in the back yard.

She has been an easy foster. She is still leary of meeting new humans, but if they are sitting down she will approach and is okay to get pets.

She's a good walker and has come around to living with humans pretty well. She goes with the flow. If she is unsure what the human wants she tends to go to her safe space but you can retrieve her easily.

12/17/20 When getting Vetted it was found that Jaxx has Anaplasmosis, a tick born infection, that she is getting a 30 day med treatment for. She will be spayed on the 29th as long as she doesn't go into heat.

More of Jaxx's personality comes out as she gets comfortable and feels better. So far, Jaxx is a very mild mannered pooch. We've had no accidents and she is now leash trained. She needs a little fine tuning on leash, but I can walk her and my two all at the same time and not be frustrated at the end. She will walk into your leg, and will still spook at big loud box trucks going by - all in all she is really pretty good on leash. She is crate trained as well and at night never made a peep - she learned the end of night routine so that she automatically headed into the crate.

She likes gentle play with other dogs and can be a bit goofy gallumping during mini games of chase.

She shares the bed in my office with one of my dogs that is under the desk during the day. She is still puppyish in that she will occassionally try to gnaw on something that isn't dog approved, but she takes correction well and stops the behavior.

Her one quirk that we are working through is that she won't eat out of a bowl, nor will she eat in the "dog" area. She'll drink out of the water bowl, but won't eat out of a bowl. So, we are feeding her off of a plate in the living room. Its progress from hand-feeding her for the first 5 days.

12/9/20 Jaxx, a 10 month old female mix, has made huge strides in 4-1/2 days. The first two days she was completely shut down, she didn't leave the crate unless we made her, and then we had to carry her outside to potty, but she wouldn't do it with a human in sight, and didn't actually go for 24 hours. We left bowls of water and food in her crate and the door open, but she didn't touch anything the first day. The next day saw minimal food being eaten and no water until late in the day. Every time we went by the crate we talked to her and tossed in a treat.

Monday saw her creeping a bit but she still wasn't eating like she should so we started hand feeding her and she ate everything we gave her. I spent my work day in the living room so I could monitor her if she came out of the crate. We softly petted her and talked to her a lot. Late Monday saw her creep around the house exploring under supervision, get some water, and I sat on the floor and petted her, when I stopped she touched my hand. She spent 90% of the day in the crate voluntarily.

Tuesday was a big day. She came out of the crate easily and followed everyone outside and explored and gave interested body language to the resident dogs, we saw the beginnings of puppy romping. Inside, she explored a lot, enough that I wasn't getting much work done because I was monitoring her, after a while I went back to my office and brought her in with me and a resident dog. She ended up cuddling on the bed with the resident dog. At night she stayed with everyone in the living room. She didn't spend much time in the crate, but she used it as a touchstone through the day when I was up and moving around. She is crated at night when we are asleep and when we leave the house.

Wednesday saw her very first walk. I had low expectations since I knew she had never been on a walk before. She didn't do terrible - she didn't try to walk me nor did she really walk in front of me. She just had a hard time deciding where she wanted to be; on my right, behind me, or on my left. Being on the left she then couldn't decide if she wanted to be between me and my 2 dogs, or between the 2 dogs. She was, of course, understandably leary of cars going by and so we had to stop every time there was one and we make frequent stops trying to get her situated and the leashes handled. Overall, I was able to maintain my normal walking pace. As I write this she is sharing the dog bed under my desk.

12/5/20 ~ Jaxx came in to rescue today with 7 other dogs from a hoarding situation in Marathon County. These dogs will be in foster care longer than normal as we get them fully vetted, and work with them to overcome their fears, and learn to become dogs.

*** Since we know nothing about Jaxx other than she will be here longer than usual, we will not be taking notes of interest for her until she is off hold and closer to being ready to start meeting families.  If you are not already approved to adopt you will want to apply to become approved so that you may be eligible to be considered when she is ready.
