ADOPTION PENDING…
3/26/19 Remington is a laid back, gentle gentleman who is fully potty trained and just wants some loving a couple of times a day, a couple of short walks to continue to build his muscles (only 1/3 mile, maybe 10 minutes at his pace), and a safe place to lay his head. He only needs inexpensive pain meds once a day with his chow. He can take 3 steps to and from his potty area, walk big hills, and go down a full flight of stairs by himself. He helps getting himself into a vehicle but needs help getting his back end up and in. He is eager to go for his walks, but he wears out fast, and his Laryngeal Paralysis causes him to get weezy. He likes to follow you around wherever you go. So that means company in the bathroom and a big body on the kitchen floor while doing food prep. He likes other dogs, is polite with them and ignored cats he was introduced to. He hasn't shown any interest in toys but will nosh on an antler for brief periods. He also eschews dog beds or any furniture. He prefers just laying on the floor with maybe a blanket thrown down. He is crate-trained but doesn't like it - he'll bark the whole time you're gone. So he gets free roam and has been a good boy - no accidents and he hasn't destroyed anything. He is at the door to greet you. 3/20/19 Remington had surgery this past week to remove 3 teeth, get neutered (which will help with his enlarged prostate), and he had the cyst-like tumor on his eyelid removed (which was rubbing his eye). The Vet said Remington did really well with the anesthesia so they were able to get everything done in one go. The Vet also said that Remington is doing much better than when they originally saw him and so figured he's got more time than they originally thought. YEAH!!! Two to three times a day Remington goes for 1/3 mile walks. His spirits are very much willing, but that's all his body can do. So in the process we are shaving off pounds and increasing his muscles. Remington isn't fat, but he's built real big, still its better for his back end to get the weight off. As you can imagine Remington's Vet bills to get him healthy and to give him time have been costly, but in the process we are giving him quality time. Please consider donating to his care. 3/12/19 We've had good news for Remington. He's improved enough to give him time, but we have to get his infected canines out. So, he'll be going into the Vet to have those removed next week, and if there are no issues and they don't have him under too long, they'll do a neuter and that will take care of his prostate problem. Remington can go for short walks to build up his muscles, but we definitely need to go at his pace when it's cool out so his Lar-Par doesn't get out of hand. 3/8/19 Remington was picked up as a stray but was found to be chipped. When contacting the owner information on the chip the shelter was informed that Remington had been given to an ex years ago with whom he had no contact and wanted nothing to do with. When asked if he'd pick up Remington, he said no. When asked for contact information on the ex, he refused to provide it. It is very difficult to believe that Remington wandered away given his condition. He arrived looking neglected for some time. Remington has a hard road ahead; you see, he has Laryngeal Paralysis, infected canines, infected, enlarged prostate, spinal degeneration, back-end arthritis and neuropathy. When he came into foster, he had a fever and blood in his urine. So I got him to the Vet ASAP. Right now he's on strong antibiotics to kick out the infection and pain killers due to the infected canines and arthritis. His blood panel came back relatively decent, and the Vet feels if we can get the infection under control and his mobility better, then we could take out the bad canines, neuter, and take care of the prostate. Still, the Lar-Par is considered advanced and with the neuropathy he probably doesn't have much time left. Remington just soaks up attention and is mildly curious about his female foster siblings, but right now just lays around. We still have to get him up and moving around, because if you don't use it, you lose it. He is better today than he was when I got him, but he still probably feels pretty awful. As you can imagine, his Vetting will be costly just to see if we can give him quality time. Please consider helping with his care.
