Flash is a Stop the Madness: Peanut's Holiday of Hope Labrador Update: Raven, the dog formerly known as Flash, is already settled into her new home with her awesome family. And yes, she's already wagging her tail! Update 1/25/17 After careful thought, I am lifting the hold on Flash. She is going to need a family who will meet her way more than halfway. Physically, she looks awesome. She's filled out nicely and has quite glossy and beautiful coat. Mentally, she is fantastic when she's alone with me or people she knows, but she races to her crate the minute she perceives "danger". Her definition of danger is quite broad--basically anything. Having described her world view, I have to say I think she will change because she is smart. And because she is a Labrador. She adjusted to my boarding kennel (a noisy, bustling place) quickly. She knows where the food is, where the treats are, and who a softie is (everyone!) I think she needs to go to her new home and start adjusting again, as painful as that is. I think she will need a lot of attention. (Maybe she doesn't need that, but I want her to have it!)
I think she has some emotional baggage. Of the 5 fosters from this group that I've hosted, she is the most aloof both to humans and dogs. She is quite clean, polite and low maintenance but we have to work to get her tail to wag. I think she needs a home where she's the only dog, and my hope is that she learns how to be a spoiled Labrador. After she recovers from her spay surgery, she should be ready for adoption by someone who doesn't need perfection, just a beautiful Labrador who is working stuff out. (The picture of Flash in the straw was taken before her rescue. She's spent her life living outdoors without much food, water or shelter. She's inside now in a warm, loving foster home.)
