Betsy is a Labrador's Labrador! Friendly, kind, very snuggly, and always ready for a snack. When she arrived at the shelter, she was . . . fat! There is no other word to describe her rolls and double chin. I am guessing she perfected her counter surfing skills in her former life, based on her skill and weight. She also had awful teeth, requiring weeks of antibiotic therapy and a super skilled dental procedure. During that procedure, in which the anesthetized dog is laid belly-up on the table, her huge lipoma (fatty tumor) became evident. Two weeks later, the giant (thankfully benign) growth was removed. Like many women of a certain age, Betsy now has a new lease on life after her teeth were fixed and a little nip n tuck. :-) The shelter listed her as 10 years old, but she has very little grey and is most energetic. She does have some cataracts, so probably can't drive at night. She gets along with any living creature. She is very obedient. Her one weakness is food. Her forever family cannot leave a garbage can out or food on the counter. . . No fancy parties with coffee tables full of canapés. She is not my first counter surfer so I find it easy to deal with; this is a situation where the environment must match the dog. I can't imagine trying to train such an otherwise perfect dog.
One last thing: She is quite beautiful, with classic good looks, a thick glossy coat and beautiful brown eyes.
