Baxter here with an update for everyone!!!

The greatest thing about life is second chances. I was found as a stray, but when LEARN came and saw what a great dog I was, they gave me a second chance on life. I know some of you may be worried about my health…that I need water 24/7, and if you are not home every hour, I will use your house as my own personal bathroom. Let me clear up some questions you might have. Because I have been with my foster home for over 5 months, I have adapted to their schedule…like any dog will. My bathroom breaks are the same as my foster sister and my water intake has decreased because I am allowed out of the kennel when my foster parents are not home. I have full access to the water dish. I used to be in a kennel and when I came out of the kennel, I would drink until the water was gone. But that was a thing of the past. I do take medicine, which are in eye drop form. I am working on taking the eye drops with no problem.

I want to let everyone know that I am a normal dog with the cutest face and the most beautiful brown eyes that will melt your heart. I love to follow you around the house to see if I can get some extra treats. If you let me, I will sleep on your couch, bed, chair, or anything else you will let me. I will even sleep on you!!! I am a cuddlier and will warm you up instantly. I walk good on a leash and still ride great in the car.

Can you help me with my drinking problem???

My name is Baxter and I have a thirst for water!!! I have a condition called diabetes insipidus. It is a metabolic disorder characterized by excessive, extreme urination, and accompanied by undue thirst. (http://www.petplace.com/dogs/diabetes-insipidus/page1.aspx) My body is telling me that I need water constantly. Please do not think that I lay at the water bowl all day. I get my fill of water and then I lay down. I just need more water than most dogs. I do not require insulin shots and no medicine (I tried medicine and it did not work). I just need someone to make sure I have plenty of water and can also take me outside frequently.

I am a lover of the couch and anyone who will let me lay on them, because I am a snuggle-bug. If you allow me up on the couch, even if you don’t, I will do my best to try and get up there…so it is best not to fight it!!

I heard there is a wonderful place I can go to called obedience school, where I can learn to walk nicely on a leash (I do need to work on that) and become a model canine citizen. When we are walking, I will sit down next to you when you stop without being told. This is so you can smell the flowers or talk to a neighbor. I also love going for a car ride. You will not even hear me. Right now I am ready to go to my forever home and snuggle with you on your bed or couch!! Please give LEARN a call and ask for Baxter!!
